Radiosurgery Procedures Available through the Stereotactic Radiosurgery Institute:

Gamma ART 6000 - Rotating Gamma System Radiosurgery

Location: Rotating Gamma System Institute, Gurnee, IL

As of 6/2004, this is the only machine of this model in the world. The device is located in the Rotating Gamma System Institute at the Advanced Radiation Oncology Center in Gurnee, Illinois. The design of this unique machine started with concepts from the older Gamma Knife technology. Two generations of patented improvements resulted in the Gamma ART 6000 model of the Rotating Gamma System from American Radiosurgery Incorporated , the only Gamma based radiosurgery System made in the United States having mechanical accuracy specifications matching the Gamma Knife, with multiple technical advantages.

This FDA approved device allows treatment of all conditions treated with the Gamma Knife. The Gamma ART 6000 has capabilites and features that, combined with our extensive experience, have allowed successful treatment of selected conditions turned down by Gamma Knife sites because of the Gamma Knife site limitations.

Intensity Modulated Radiosurgery with Leksell Compatible Frame and ADAC Planning

Location: Advanced Radiation Oncology Center, Gurnee, IL

The Advanced Radiation Oncology Center in Gurnee, Illinois, under the direction of Dr. Yashbir Mehta, operates multiple advanced technologies. These include a multiple energy Elekta Linear Accelerator with multileaf collimator, Nomos BAT system, wide bore Phillips CT scanner, IMRT planning system from ADAC, and High Dose Rate (HDR) brachytherapy unit. The center also houses the Rotating Gamma System Institute which operates the Gamma ART 6000 Rotating Gamma System.

Using the Leksell compatible frame, Elekta Linear Accelerator, and ADAC planning system, the Advanced Radiation Oncology Center can offer Intensity Modulated Radiosurgery to patients requiring this technique.

BrainLAB, Intensity Modulated Radiosurgery Technique, with M3 collimator

Location: St. Francis Hospital, Radiation Oncology Department, Evanston, IL

At St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, Illinois, the BrainLAB Radiosurgery system combined with the Varian linear accelerator is used to perform various types of radiosurgery. This sophisticated radiosurgery delivery system has many capabilities depending on its configuration and programming for individual cases.

The most sophisticated type of radiosurgery performed with this system involves using intensity modulated radiosurgery planning combined with the small field capability of the M3 collimator.
